NASA completed a milestone in preparation for Green Run testing of its Space Launch System (SLS) core stage with an August 23-24, 2019, lift and installation of the core stage pathfinder simulator onto the B-2 Test Stand at Stennis Space Center. For this test of the new core stage, the team at Stennis will lift the flight core stage for Artemis 1, the first SLS mission into the stand. SLS and the new Orion spacecraft are the foundation for NASA’s Artemis Program, which will send the first woman and next man to the Moon by 2024. The crew of the International Space Station snapped this image of a full Moon as the orbiting complex flew 270 miles above the South Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America. The Space Station is an international partnership of the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan and Canada. NASA astronaut candidate Raja Chari climbs into a NASA T-38 aircraft, Friday, July 12, 2019, at Ellington Field in Houston, Texas. Chari was selected by NASA to join the 2017 Astronaut Candidate Class and reported for duty in August 2017. The Iowa native graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1999 with bachelor’s degrees in astronautical engineering and engineering science. He earned a master’s degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is also a graduate from the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School. He’s among the NASA astronauts and astronaut candidates who will explore farther into the solar system than we’ve ever gone before. Watch: We Go as the Artemis Generation.
