被冰雪覆盖的天山

Snow and ice cover mountains of the Tien Shan range in this photograph taken from the International Space Station (ISS) on Feb. 9, 2022. The Tien Shan—which means heavenly mountains in Chinese—is one of the largest mountain ranges in the world, extending approximately 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) across Central Asia, mostly along the border between Kyrgyzstan and China. The glaciers covering these slopes are a crucial source of water for nearby farmers and residents. See more wintery photos from the ISS.

Snoopy, the zero gravity indicator that flew aboard Orion during the Artemis I mission, wears a smile after being unpacked from his transport case on Jan. 5, 2023. Zero gravity indicators are small items carried aboard spacecraft that provide a visual indicator when a spacecraft has reached the weightlessness of microgravity. NASA has held an association with Snoopy since the Apollo Era – the character has contributed to the excitement for NASA human spaceflight missions, helping inspire generations to dream big, and is a symbol of NASA’s safety culture and mission success. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthplace, Atlanta, Georgia, is seen on January 20, 2013, in this image from the International Space Station as it flew approximately 240 miles above the city. NASA honors Dr. King’s life and legacy by expanding mission equity, engaging in public service, and sharing knowledge for the benefit of all humanity. NASA astronaut and Expedition 68 Flight Engineer Frank Rubio is all smiles as he observes the behavior of a free-flying water bubble inside the International Space Station’s (ISS) Kibo laboratory module on Oct. 10, 2022. Fluid physics is the study of liquid and gas motion and the effects of forces on liquids and gases. The International Space Station’s low-gravity environment offers a unique place to study fluid physics. Nearly weightless conditions allow researchers to observe and control fluid phenomena in ways not possible on Earth. Learn more about fluid physics research on the ISS. The Artemis I Orion capsule is secured on a platform inside the Multi-Payload Processing Facility (MPPF) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida in this image from Jan. 6, 2023. Orion splashed down on Dec. 11, 2022 and was transported back to Kennedy for de-servicing inside the MPPF. During Orion’s 25.5-day trip beyond the Moon and back, it flew farther than any designed to carry humans to deep space and safely return them to Earth, paving the way for human deep space exploration and demonstrating NASA’s commitment and capability to extend human presence to the Moon and beyond. NASA astronaut and Expedition 68 Flight Engineer Nicole Mann peers through one of the seven windows in the cupola, the International Space Station’s “window to the world” on Jan. 2, 2023. Mann displays the U.S. flag inside the cupola in the window next to her. The cupola is designed for watching operations outside the station such as robotic activities, the approach of vehicles, and spacewalks. Its windows provide spectacular views of Earth and celestial objects. The scattered stars of the globular cluster NGC 6355 are strewn across this image from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. NGC 6355 is a galactic globular cluster that resides in our Milky Way galaxy’s inner regions. It is less than 50,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus. Globular clusters are stable, tightly bound groups of tens of thousands to millions of stars that are associated with all types of galaxies. Their dense populations of stars and mutual gravitational attraction give these clusters a roughly spherical shape that holds a bright, central concentration of stars surrounded by an increasingly sparse sprinkling of stars. The dense, bright core of NGC 6355 shines in crystal-clear detail as Hubble is able to resolve individual stars in the crowded…

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) spacecraft is seen in this early morning photo from Dec. 14, 2022, as preparations for launch continued. SWOT, the first satellite mission that will observe nearly all water on Earth’s surface, launched on Dec. 16. Jointly developed by NASA and Centre National D’Études Spatiales, with contributions from the Canadian Space Agency and United Kingdom Space Agency, the satellite will measure the height of water in the planet’s lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and oceans. This photo was chosen by the NASA Headquarters photographers as one of the best images from 2022. See the rest on Flickr.
